Maintenance Methods of Multi-Tube Extrusion Production Line

1. Daily Inspection Before Startup

  • Check key parts every day before turning on the whole line, which prevents most sudden faults. First, check feeding hoppers and screw barrels. Clear leftover plastic scraps accumulated overnight. Residual materials may carbonize after heating, causing tube surface black spots or inner blockage during extrusion. Operators need to confirm no foreign hard objects fall into the feeding area; hard impurities will scratch the extrusion screw.
  • Second, check temperature control of heating zones. Each zone temperature must match the raw material parameters. Too high temperature leads to material degradation; low temperature results in uneven tube wall thickness. Double-check temperature sensors to make sure readings are accurate.
  • Finally, look at traction haul-off units, cooling water tanks and cutting machines. Confirm water circulation is normal, traction belts have proper tightness, and cutting blades stay sharp. Loose belts cause unstable tube speed, affecting finished tube size consistency.

2. Regular Weekly Maintenance

  • Set fixed weekly downtime for comprehensive cleaning and tightening. Disassemble and clean the extrusion die head. Material residue builds up inside dies after one week of continuous production, which deforms tube holes and makes porous tubes irregular. Use professional cleaning tools and matched cleaning materials to clear die runners carefully. Do not scratch the inner die surface.
  • Tighten all bolts on frames, motors and gearboxes. Vibration during long-time operation loosens connectors. Loose components create big vibration, noise and dimensional errors. Lubricate all bearing points, chains and transmission gears with designated lubricating oil. Too little oil brings heavy wear; excessive lubricant may drip onto plastic products and cause defects.
  • Check the cooling system thoroughly. Clean scale inside cooling pipes. Poor water cooling cannot shape tubes well, resulting in warped soft tubes. Drain dirty water and add clean circulating water if needed.

3. Monthly Deep Maintenance

  • Carry out in-depth maintenance once every month for long service life of the whole extrusion line. Inspect the main extrusion screw for wear and corrosion. Severe abrasion leads to unstable plastic melting and inconsistent extrusion output. Contact equipment suppliers for repair or replacement when obvious wear appears. Check electric cabinets, wires and contactors. Dust accumulation inside electrical boxes triggers short circuits or unstable motor operation. Blow dust away with dry air, check wire aging and fasten loose wiring terminals.
  • Test hydraulic and pneumatic parts of cutting and winding equipment. Replace aging sealing rings to avoid oil and air leakage. Calibrate speed matching among extruder, tractor and winder. Synchronized speed is critical to keep porous tube wall thickness uniform.

4. Long-Term Idling Maintenance

If the multi-tube extrusion line stops running for more than two weeks, special storage care is required. Empty all plastic material inside barrels and dies completely. Heat the barrel slightly to drain residual melt, avoiding long-term solidified material sticking inside. Coat exposed metal parts with anti-rust oil. Shut off water supply, drain all water inside cooling pipelines to prevent pipe cracking in low-temperature environments. Cover the whole machine with dustproof cloth to block dust and moisture.

Common Negligences Worth Avoiding

Many factories only repair machines after breakdown instead of doing regular maintenance. Emergency repair costs far exceed daily maintenance fees. Some workshops use improper lubricants or rough tools to clean dies, speeding up equipment aging. Others skip temperature checks to save time, producing large quantities of defective porous tubes. Stable maintenance cuts reject rates and extends equipment service life effectively.

Conclusion and Recommendations

The extrusion production line for porous fiber-optic tubes directly determines product quality and output. Maintenance does not require complex technical expertise; the key lies in standardized daily operations and consistent execution. Factory technical personnel can develop customized maintenance checklists based on actual shift schedules and production material conditions.
